Here at Truman State, we believe that trees play an important role in both the education process and being environmentally responsible. This page details some of the ways we have contributed to the health and multitude of our trees.

Let us introduce you to some of Missouri’s native trees growing in the south part of campus in Red Barn Park. The walk begins just south of the Health and Exercise Building and proceeds in a clockwise direction.

oak trees. A highlight along the trail is a bluff outcropping overlooking a portion of the 55,600-acre Truman Lake. Visitors may glimpse such wildlife as bobcats, deer, wild turkeys or possibly bald eagles in flight. The trail has a 260-foot long access spur to Buck Ridge Campground. Nov 9, 2019 · There are two tree walks on campus, one at the red barn near Pershing Building and another on The Quad. The maps of these walks can be found on Truman’s website.

Oct 21, 2024 · In honor of National Arbor Day, there will be a tree-planting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the southwest corner of McClain Hall. Representatives from Truman and the Missouri Department of Conservation will plant a decorative Service Berry tree.

Tree inventory – listing of all trees on campus including GPS location, species, size, conditions, observations, recommendation regarding care. Tree Protection Zone also known as the Critical Root Zone – an imaginary circle on the ground determined by the tree diameter, in inches, measured 4.5 feet above grade multiplied by 12 inches.
