AFC Bournemouth (/ ˈ b ɔːr n m ə θ / ⓘ BORN-məth) is a professional association football club based in Kings Park, Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth, Dorset, England. They compete in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Formed in 1899 as Boscombe, the club adopted their current name in 1971.

AFC Bournemouth become a member of the Football League in 1923. They resided in the third division for five straight decades before a relegation to fourth division.

The crest of AFC Bournemouth features black stripes to reflect shirts worn by players past and present for more than 40 years together with gold detail to signify the recent succes. It also contains the silhouette of Dickie Dowsett, the club’s former striker and commercial manager.
