The "A" represents roughly the pear shape of the envelope, and the 19 is the diameter of the envelope in 1/8ths of an inch. Added later: After checking, Chris M's "E" designation is also correct -as it defines the BASE of the bulb.

Then there is e27 and e38, large envelope v. small. (I assume larger means it runs cooler.) Googling, so far, I see this bulb coming in frosted, clear, and shatter proof.

Oct 2, 2008 · I think that heatsinking in MR16's are comparable to GU10 and E27 based replacement bulbs that I have tested resently. When using >= 3 watt emitters, heatsinking in those bulbs just doesn't seem to work very well. Even if the heatsink is massive, like in this bulb:

Mar 5, 2014 · The lamp comes with a 12V, 20W halogen bulb. If I understand the math right, that means the power supply is providing about 1.67 amps of current. In fact, that might be too much current for most LEDs - at least for the ones useful in this application.

I'd always thought that "PR" bulbs were designed for use with a (P)arabolic (R)eflector - probably a standardized distance from the flange to the filament, so that the reflector designer could put the filament at the focal point of the reflector (or at least a known distance from the focal point).

Jan 2, 2006 · When you apply more than 3 volts to it, it is then being overdriven. The added power will cause the filament to glow brighter and release more light, but at the expense of bulb life. Of course, too much overdrive will blow a bulb/led. I thought i'd chuck this in as Solstice did LED's but not incans.
