I luv you Jimmy Spud is a play set in Newcastle upon Tyne by British playwright Lee Hall [1] starring Gus Brown as Jimmy Spud and Michael Walpert as Stephen (Scout). Originally commissioned by BBC Radio 4, it was first broadcast in 1995.

Gabriel and Me is a 2001 film starring Iain Glen, Sean Landless and Billy Connolly as the angel Gabriel. It originated from the 1995 British play I Luv You Jimmy Spud. Some outdoor scenes were filmed in North East England including the Roker pier in Sunderland. The film premiered at the 2001 Edinburgh International Film Festival. [2]

Jimmy Spud (the lead 11-year-old) lives in yet another north east dysfunctional family and, for reasons which remain obscure, decides he wants to train as an angel (the usual qualification - being dead - does not seem to apply in this plot).

Lee Hall has been the recipient of many awards for all aspects of his work. He won the Alfred Bradley Bursary and the Richard Imison Prize with his first play for radio, "I Luv You Jimmy Spud", which he adapted for the screen as "Gabriel and Me" …
