Good first game? - General - Spiderweb Software Forums
Mar 19, 2021 · I'd say that the recently-launched Geneforge 1: Mutagen is the best place to start. It's an excellent game, well-written, and a good introduction to its fictional universe, and Geneforge is Spiderweb's most unique, distinctive franchise, in terms of both worldbuilding (high sci-fantasy with philosophical concerns) and mechanically (a very detailed and involved summoning system, basically).
Finished Spiderweb games - recommendations for similar RPGs?

Mar 29, 2022 · All of his games are very story driven so be prepared for lots of reading. There are no voice actors giving soliloquies, just blocks of text imparting the same information. If you're expecting a modern game designed by committee & actions driven by what the marketing dept thinks will sell best, well you won't find that at Spiderweb.

Jul 20, 2010 · It has not much dialogue and roguelike clunky controls, but the combat is a wonderful experience. It is turn-based and tactical, yet very brutal. Spiderweb's nor Basilisk's games do not allow fountains of blood nor killing your enemies by heavy hit which will throw them as a projectile on another enemy. (and possibly kill both)

Feb 21, 2022 · It actually wasn't meant for Win95 at all -- the Exile games were all developed for Mac. Windows ports came later. (And frankly they had a somewhat unique UI for any system, at the time, though the 3.0 versions removed some of these elements.)

But there are actually quite a lot of games, so here's some guidance: the Avadon, Avernum, and Geneforge games are all series and all have different characters. They also all become more advanced over the series.
Which game engine does Spiderweb uses?
Jul 21, 2022 · I'm not sure whether the Queen's Wish game engine is entirely custom-made by Jeff, but it hasn't changed that much from his older games, so it wouldn't surprise me. (For example, the pop-up dialogs such as the saved game list or conversation dialog, and the UI around the edge, are almost identical in form and function to Avadon or Geneforge.)

Oct 19, 2013 · Well-done story that ties together a lot of themes and plot/character elements from previous games, fun gameplay overall (though enemies tend to have giant piles of HP on higher difficulties, which can make combat a bit tedious), some of the best set pieces of any Spiderweb game, and a lot prettier than its predecessors.
