On January 30, 1922, Sacramento experienced an unusual winter storm that left the city, and places like Sutter’s Fort, blanketed with a couple inches of snow. The Sacramento Union newspaper published the next day that since Sacramento recorded an average temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit that month, January 1922 was the coldest month in the last 44 years up until that point.
